After my visit to Vietnam, I visited the Kingdom of Cambodia. By boat we passed the Vietnam/Cambodia Mekong river border at Chau Doc and sailed towards
Cambodia's capital Phnom Penh. A city with approx. 1,5 million inhabitants. There we stayed some days to visit a.o. the Royal Palace complex, the Killing fields of Choeung Ek,
where during the Red Khmer government  of Pol Pot during 1975-1978 millions of innocent men, women and children were tortured and killed in a terrible way,
and we also visited the National Heritage Museum of Phnom Penh devoted to Cambodia's long history and culture.
After our stay in the capital we went by bus to the north Cambodian city of Siem Reap, a long bus trip which gave us an interesting impression
of the landscape of the country, the villages and the friendly Cambodian people we met during that trip. In Siem Reap we stayed various days
and from there we again made some tours to the beautiful and interesting temple complexes of Angkor Thom, Ta Phrom and Angkor Wat.
These former Hindu, and now Buddhist, complexes were built in the 11th and 12th Century. If you ever visit Cambodia
you have to go there and see these historical  temples with your own eyes.
